crafting and furniture making
The Big Bean Bag Company refill bags allow to easily top-up your bean bag to keep it plump and comfortable, or to replace the existing polystyrene plastic beads in another product.
Biofoam® is a compostable form of vegetable extract that has been expanded into eco friendly pearls. It is child and pet friendly, although it is a choking hazard and should be treated as such. Biofoam doesn’t harm the environment and keeps its shape, ensuring our beanbags are incredibly comfortable.
BioFoam® has excellent insulation properties, insensitivity to moisture and is rot free, fungal proof and resistant to UV radiation.
BioFoam® is a plant-based alternative to expanded polystyrene. It looks similar, but is made from vegetable materials rather than petroleum based plastic. This means that it is derived from a renewable resource, has an organic base and is biodegradable.
Perfect as a polystyrene alternative for use in crafting and furniture making.

1. COMPOSTABLE FILLING
2. INCREDIBLY COMFORTABLE
Biofoam doesn’t harm the environment and keeps its shape. Perfect as a polystyrene alternative for use in crafting and furniture making.
3. LONG LASTING
Compostable biopolymer derived from plants that lasts for at least 10 years.
BioFoam® has many great properties, one of which is durability, so the need for top-ups will be low. However, we know that you’re going to spend a lot of time using your bean bag, so if you do need to top up the filling, we can provide you with a refill to use at home.
4. HOW MUCH BIOFOAM® DO I NEED?
Volume of a product needs three dimensions, length, width and height OR a radius measurement if the product is round.
Here is a great website www.calculator.net/volume-calculator.html
Once you have the cm3 you can find a convertor by Googling CM cubed to litres.
5. DOES BIOFOAM® MEET FIRE SAFTEY STANDARDS?
Our products meet all applicable British safety standards, including fire safety. We are tested to BS 7176:2007 Low Hazard standard for domestic household use.
Our outer cover fabrics are all made from natural cotton and tested to cover schedule 4 cigarette test, with a tested schedule 3 barrier interliner. Our BioFoam® itself has been tested to schedule 2 for non-foam fillings and fibres.
To make our products to a higher standard as possible they are also tested to BS 5852:2006, Section 11 for non-domestic environments. This test covers all composites used on all our products. For structure and durability our bean products have been tested to EN 16139 Test level 1 for general non-domestic environments.
Developing ways to live that don't harm the environment.
Polystyrene contains the toxic substances Styrene and Benzene, suspected carcinogens, and neurotoxins that are hazardous to humans. Some estimates put the lifespan of styrofoam in a landfill around 500 years, and some put it way beyond that.
Most bean bags are filled with a manmade material known as expanded polystyrene (EPS). EPS is a hard-celled plastic very similar to Styrofoam, which is extruded polystyrene.
Besides bean bag beads, EPS is used for disposable coffee cups and as cushioning material for packaging and shipping.
feels just like normal beans, won't be going back to poly foam
Topped up my sons bean bag a treat & still had enough left over for our footstool.
Needed some new beans for an old bean bag. Ordered, arrived within a week.
Excellent packaging, all recyclable and poured into the a new bean bag liner easily, the bag's now much firmer and you don't sink to the ground anymore.
The existing non-eco beans are still in the bag in their own liner so they can be removed and disposed of if we ever discover an ethical way to dispose of crushed old bean bag fillings.
